Azul: first routes

November 29, 2008 | By More

Azul informed through a press release that has asked the authorities for permission to operate from Campinas to Porto Alegre and from Campinas to Salvador. Each route will have 35 weekly flights, which confirms the company’s strategy of flying few routes with a high number of flights on each of them.

As in Brazil copying the competition is the name of the game – rather than evolving different strategies involving new routes, the way some foreign airlines operating in Brazil do, we can only expect an increase of Gol and Tam flights to the first destinations flown by Azul. OceanAir has just announced a new São Paulo – Porto Alegre flight…

The fight Azul is engaging in to operate from the domestic airports of São Paulo (Congonhas) and Rio de Janeiro (Santos Dumond) continues. A public consultation is expected to discuss the liberation of further slots at Congonhas. And Azul is still not allowed to operate from Santos Dumont to destinations other than the air shuttle São Paulo – Rio de Janeiro. But in spite of this, the companing is planning to operate a larger number of Embraer 190 jets, in lieu of the 195 model – initally to become the company standard. The 190 has fewer seats and Azul plans to use them at the airports mentioned here.
