Lan and Tam become Latam
The process that led to the takeover of Brazilian airline Tam by Chile’s Lan has been finally completed (semantics are interesting, there are a few in Brazil who insist on talking about a merger of two companies; in business circles worldwide there is no doubt we have witnessed a takevoer). The new Latam becomes the second largest airline in the group.
Latam will be based in Santiago de Chile.
Lan’s website (Tam’s website too, but it redirects to Lan’s website) contains a FAQ section on the new association – in English.
For the time being Tam is still a member of the Star Alliance although it is certain it will leave the alliance. Chances are it will join OneWorld, the alliance Lan is already a member of.
