Argentina’s airline Aerolíneas Argentinas are negotiating with the Brazilian aviation authorities a direct flight between Río de Janeiro and Bariloche. United Airlines are studying a direct flight from San Francisco and Rio de Janeiro. It would become the first direct flight in operation linking California and Brazil. In October 2012 Brazilian airline TAM will increase its current four weekly flights between Rio de Janeiro and Frankfurt to a total of seven flights, offering a daily flight between Rio and Germany. Tam will use an Airbus 330 on the route – on its São Paulo-Frankfurt route it operates a Boeing 777.

Although the airline is still awaiting for the permission from the Brazilian authorities, German company Condor is already selling tickets for its new direct flight from Frankfurt in Germany to Rio de Janeiro. The airline will use a Boeing 767-300ER on the route. Right now Condor flies to Salvador de Bahia and to Recife.
