the main Brazilian airlines

November 28, 2008 | By More

In Brazil three companies concentrate the biggest share of the commercial aviation market. They are, in order of importance, Tam, Gol and Varig.

Gol owns Varig, and there are projects in the short term to begin code-share flights between the two companies. Tam has agreements with several international airlines and will shortly join the Star Alliance.

As well as the three companies mentioned above, you need to be aware of the existence of the following four companies:

  • Azul, company owned by the founder of the U.S. Jet Blue. It has just began flying and promises a rapid expansion of its operations.
  • Trip, the largest Brazilian regional company, with flights to several tourist destinations (the most popular of them being Fernando de Noronha)
  • Avianca Brasil, former OceanAir

When it comes to searching for your airfares for domestic flights in Brazil, the companies mentioned in this post should be the starting point for your searches.
